People of Habits are People of Success

“I have some weird habits. For instance, I love beets. Show me a salad bar and I will clean them out of their beets.” – Chris Pratt

Ok, so I know this quote isn’t as inspiring as some of the other ones I put on here, but I mean hey, it’s Chris Pratt.  The man trains velociraptors and saves the galaxy.  You gotta love him.

You eat all the beets you want to, sir, and I will applaud you for it.

Ok, let’s get down to business.

We’ve all heard the stories of how some of the most successful people today reached the point of success.  Of course hard-work and determination are the typical things mentioned, but another important factor most successful people incorporate into their lives are forming good habits.

Forming good habits ensures you stay on a schedule, and keeps your life organized especially during more hectic times.  We all know life can get stressful so if you form the right habits now and dedicate yourself to sticking to your schedule in the beginning, it will be easier to continue your habit later on down the road.

Now I’m sure you’ve heard of some of the weird habits successful people have, and I’m not saying you have to follow their exact habits to be successful.  You don’t have to yell a pump up speech to yourself in the mirror while your shirt is off, nor do you have to meditate in the mountains like a monk.  For some people these habits work, but they won’t work for everyone.

Find whatever gets you up in the morning and ready to take on the world.

Here are some tips and strategies I found to be successful in inspiring me and are good habits to form.

Good Diet and Right Amount of Exercise

Ok, I had to list this one first because I’m not going to lie, this is an area I struggle in sometimes.  It really is true you are what you eat and the better you eat, the better you will feel.  I’m not saying you shouldn’t indulge and enjoy yourself every once in a while, but keep it in moderation.  I’ll be the first to admit that I love chowing down to some Oreos every now and then.

WHAT?!  You want to be a dentist and you’re eating Oreos?!  This is blasphemy!

Yeah yeah, I know, but even I’ll admit you deserve to treat yourself every once in a while and if you treat yourself to sweets then enjoy yourself!  Just remember moderation is key.

Exercise can do so many great things for your body and mind it’s crazy.  From increased life span to less depressive and more creative thoughts, exercise is a wonderful habit to form if you want to be successful. You don’t have to pump iron to the point your head looks like it’s going to pop off either.  45 minutes of a mixture of aerobic and anaerobic activities is wonderful way to get started.

Getting Up Earlier

Rise and shine!

There’s only 24 hours in a day and it’s best to utilize as many of them as possible every day.  Think about how much longer your day seems mornings when you have to get up earlier than usual.  There’s no excuse that they aren’t enough hours in the day if you’re hitting the snooze button every morning.

You don’t have to start getting up at the crack of dawn every morning right from the start.  Try to make yourself get up 15 minutes earlier every morning until you reach a point where your mornings seem much more productive.  Think about all the things you could get done if you add a couple more hours to your day!

Eat Breakfast Every Morning

You don’t have to make yourself anything spectacular, but just eating something in the morning will give you an extra bit of energy to start off your day.  It’ll also help avoid your stomach from growling like an animal at work or in class.  It really is true that breakfast is the most important meal of the day!

Always Look at the World and Yourself in a Positive Way

Positivity=Confidence and Confidence=Success

Negative thoughts are very damaging to not only our mental and emotional health, but can also be detrimental to our physical health as well.  It’s easy to get into the habit of dreading getting up in the morning, but if you wake up each morning and tell yourself you have what it takes to own the day then you’ll be surprised by just how great your mornings will seem.

You have the ability to make your day great and be a successful person so be sure to remind yourself of how awesome you are every day.

Visualize the Dream

Why are you forming these habits in the first place?  Because you’re alive and have goals and dreams you wish to accomplish.  Remind yourself every day what you’re doing all this for no matter if you decide to do this by talking to yourself in the mirror or forming a vision board to look at every day.  People are always searching for a purpose in life and without this it’s hard to stay motivated.  Know who you are and what you want to do with your life.

You have a purpose and reason to be here today so remind yourself of this.

Maybe you’ll find your own habits and ticks that will inspire you to do something great every day, and that is great!

Work on forming a schedule and sticking to the habits that work for you.  Once you start forming the person you want to be there’s no way the world can stop you.

So let’s grab enough beets to make Dwight Schrute a rich man, and toast to working today to form the tomorrow we deserve.

Good luck and I hope this made you smile!
